| We're engaged!Hey guys, I think a lot of you got this, so sorry if you're getting it from my blog too, but I figured I would post it...
Hello all, As you all know (I think :)) I have been
dating a guy named Steve DeVries for the last six months and over this
time we've gotten to know each other and... fallen in love <gasp>
:) Steve came home with me to France for Christmas and it's been so
fun to be here with my family and him at the same time... Doesn't
happen very often... Dad was able to meet Steve in November and decide
what he thought about him :) And I've been so fortunate to have such
wonderful friends around me who have been family to me when mine has
been far away. Your input and interest has meant a lot.
Steve and I took a trip to Paris Monday and Tuesday (a
birthday present for Steve from my parents!) and Monday night as we
neared the Eiffel Tower by way of the bridge over the Seine at about
4:55... Steve faked that he needed something out of his bag and
crouched down on the ground... Then turned around really fast with a
white box in his hand and said "Will you marry me" with what I have
since decided was not a panicked "I have to blurt this out quick
because I'm so nervous" look, but rather an excited one :) So... I said
yes :) And I was fine until he put the sparkly ring on my finger which
was a couple of minutes after he actually asked, that I cried :) Which
I think is a good thing and respectable, at least in the movies.
Speaking of movies... When I had had my crying moment, Steve kissed me
and right as I looked up the Eiffel Tower lit up with sparkly white
lights that come on on the hour, illuminating the tower as if it were
diamond-studded. It was five o'clock :)
So, the journey begins, or continues or whatever... It is
wonderful to be in France and to be able to share our engagement with
my parents, and I look forward to seeing you all and being all sappy
all over again :) Please continue to pray for us as we follow the Lord
and seek his will for our life together.
Love to you all.... Joyeux Noel
(I can't find the right punctuation on this computer, so ignore the
lack of punctuation) and Bonne Année!! (Merry Christmas and Happy New
Year!)

| Driving to WorkI've been thinking about all of this for a while because I do it every day... And the details of it all have become kind of beautiful to me...
Every day I drive the same streets to work - - same turns, except when I'm late and have to do some creative driving.... :) This is what I see.
First, as I get in my car, two school buses are usually waiting on my street, and I'm reminded of how early kids have to get on the bus... 6:30! I remember the days when I used to take the bus... or more appropriately, used to miss the bus and my Dad finally got to sick of it he just drove us for the rest of the year...
I take a couple of turns to get to my main drag, and there's the gas station where I look eagerly to see how low the gas prices have gotten... There's a cemetary on the left and it's really a nice one. I pause to question why there are fences around cemetaries... Ok, it's kind of a ghetto neighborhood, but do people really want to hang out in there? Today there was a kind of Jane Austen-esque fog hanging over it, but not over the street or the rest of the neighborhood... Why is that?
There's a light that I come to soon after and funny enough, it seems that every day I hit that light right as two ladies are crossing the street to get to the bus stop on the other side. I think they're mother and daughter, and I wonder where they go every day... They're african american and the lady that's closest to me is older and heavy-set. She's always holding the arm of the younger lady as they cross the street.
At the next light there's a telephone wire that crosses over the street, there's kind of a hill leading up to it so you're looking up... There is always a huge group of morning doves sitting on top of that particular wire... Wonder why that one and not the other. Maybe they play games seeing who can hit the moving cars. They're pretty anyway.
What I notice next is the lack of crossing guards! Yes, if you recall my lamentations from last school year, I was not a fan of the large number of crossing guards on my way to work... There was much rejoicing when I realized my going into work earlier would eliminate this unhappy circumstance.
The rest of the drive is not spectacular, but I tend to have the same company on this stretch. There's the guy in the Jetta with the Rhode Island license plate who goes to work around where my office is every day... I wonder - - why hasn't he changed his license plate yet? Why did he want to leave RI and come here?? Then there's the lady with the license plate that ends in "FAY" and I feel like that's her first name. And then there's the lady in my department who drives really slow and makes us all miss lights...
I have two favorite things about the drive... One is coming up to the last light before I turn into the office... The road rides up onto an overpass and you can see all the trees in the park - - looks like a forest, and I can't wait until the leaves start turning.
The other part I like is leaving work. Not just because I'm leaving, although that is pretty good... But also because there's a Celtic dance studio right across from the office and at 4:30 a bunch of little kids are in there doing a jig and jumping around in their cool outfits and looking like River Dance. Kind of whimsical.
So... that's my drive every day. Maybe you can picture it.

| Too funnySo... Lynnette and Alyssa and I were watching "America's Got Talent" and they show all kinds of commercials I've never seen... Or maybe it's because I haven't watched TV in a stinking long time...
In any case, they showed a commercial for a lingerie store that will remain unnamed and we were making funny comments that I won't repeat, and then the end of the commercial went like this: Commercial: Do you know where you can get a body like this? Alyssa: Go to your local surgeon!
He he... Nice :)

| Right onYou are quite right, Isaac... As always. We can never overlook the overwhelming anticipation that each of us has for the 28th of September to move ever closer. And likewise the 29th of September which is an auspicious day in itself.
Therefore... back by popular acclaim... I give you The Grand Canyon Countown. 3:00 is the official "go time" as far as I'm concerned. :)

| Here you goMy boyfriend tells me I need to write on here more... But I don't really have anything that exciting to say at this moment in time. I will update everyone shortly.
In the meantime... Check out his blog. He doesn't post either.
